ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2024

Ports Round-up

This week the ports industry has been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week and championing the crucial role of apprenticeships in fostering skill development and career advancement across various industries including the maritime sector. The industry body for the ports industry, the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ has reflected on the various developments.

In the ports community, this week serves as a platform to highlight the significance of apprenticeship programmes in preparing the workforce for the challenges and opportunities within maritime and port operations.

Indeed we have seen some inspiring examples of the various apprenticeships from our industry:

Also the ports industry’s training, skills and safety organisation, Port Skills and Safety, has examples of some inspiring apprentice journeys which can be viewed here:

In addition PSS has resources for those interested in a port apprenticeship:

Meanwhile the BPA has produced a compendium of port roles within our Careers in Ports guide, on our website here:

Careers Hub – ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ

We are also working with  providing information on port roles and sharing examples such as what our ports are offering for apprentices and any other materials for their website, the generation logistics booklet can be downloaded here:

Commenting on the Week and the UK ports industry’s initiatives, the BPA’s Events, Marketing & Programmes Manager, Shenaz Bussawon said:

“There are a wide range of exciting jobs and roles within ports and the importance of apprenticeships is that they give the opportunity of learning new skills, whilst providing a route of progression for those who never knew what is within the ports sector.

It’s been an exciting week and I was particularly pleased to have had the opportunity to speak to some apprentices this week and to participate in a Generation Logistics Parliamentary Reception. Hearing about their enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and listening to their journeys was truly inspirational.

Also, it has been great to see examples of port apprentices promoted this week. It is however, something to be celebrated all year round and we need keep putting them in the spotlight as they are indeed the future of this great industry!”
